Unfortunately, a lot of times we end up “stress-laxing”. This is when we reach for something outside of us to help us relax, but it never ends up doing the trick and we keep reaching for more and more of that thing to make us feel better. Alcohol, prescription meds, drugs, social media, food, binge streaming, sports, sex… whatever it is we reach for ends up following the law of diminishing returns: the more we do the thing, the less benefit we get in return, so we keep doing more and more of it to “try” and feel better.
The key to breaking the “stress-laxing” cycle is to find ways to relax and get to our own place of peaceful presence and calm awareness on the inside first. Because on the inside is our connection to our own power, our own guidance, our own knowing, and is an unlimited source of energy.
