Why Radical Acceptance Is the Key to Emotional Freedom (Even When It Feels Impossible)
We’ve all heard it: “Let it go.”
But when you’ve been deeply hurt by someone—especially someone close to you like a parent or caregiver—those words can feel hollow, even infuriating.
So what if I told you that letting go isn’t about pretending it didn’t happen, or pretending it didn’t hurt?
It’s about finally freeing yourself from the emotional weight you’ve been carrying.
A Story from the Work
Recently, I worked with a client who was struggling with blame, guilt, and a deep sense of responsibility for their parent’s wellbeing. They had been abandoned emotionally, blamed for things that weren’t theirs to carry, and yet they still felt stuck in the role of “protector.”
There was so much pain sitting underneath the surface—and naturally, they couldn’t move forward.
As we moved through some deep transformation work together, they finally reached a turning point.
They realized something powerful:
“My parent didn’t hurt me because they were evil or bad. They hurt me because they were hurting. Because that’s all they knew.”
And that’s when I shared a quote with them that hit home:
“The scorpion doesn’t sting because it’s evil. It stings because it’s a scorpion.”
It’s not about justifying the sting. It’s about recognizing the truth: some people act from their own pain, not with malicious intent—but because they don’t know how else to be.
What Radical Acceptance Really Means
Radical Acceptance isn’t letting someone off the hook.
It’s letting yourself off the hook—from carrying the resentment, guilt, shame, and blame that’s been poisoning your peace.
It’s about seeing things for what they are, not what you wish they were.
And from that place of truth?
You can heal. You can let go. You can reclaim your power.
Your Peace Is Waiting
The more you accept that people will “people”—even those who “should have done better”—the more you liberate yourself.
So here’s a question to sit with:
What would change in your life if you stopped waiting for an apology that may never come… and gave yourself permission to let go anyway?
If this resonates and you’re ready to release what’s been weighing you down…
